Athenahealth offers several services to its providers. These services include athenaClinicals (Electronic Health Records), athenaCollector (Practice Management), athenaCommunicator (Patient Engagement Portal), Medical Billing, Population Health, Care Co-ordination and Epocrates. The premier product of athenahealth is athenaOne – an integrated suite, which includes athenaCollector, athenaClinicals and athenaCommunicaor, all combined into a unified platform. This product is optimized for those athenahealth users, who are looking for an all-inclusive experience in their practice.
Athenahealth has one of the biggest networks of providers within the US. Therefore, it is easy to catch up with providers who are already using the services of athenahealth. Athenahealth offers interoperability, which means that all the stakeholders in any medical practice are seamlessly connected and data sharing can actively take place.
They highly value the needs of their providers and would try to offer as much customization as they can. In terms of their certifications, athenahealth is HIPPA certified, MACRA and MIPS certified and HITECH certified.

The EMR is outstanding with great utility. A lot of things can be modified, which adds to the utility of the application. I would definitely want other people to use the application too.
The implementation of the application is a long process, as compared to other vendors in the industry. Moreover, the prices of Athena are much higher comparitively, and they should work on this.

Athena has a great emr/pm system and their support staff is also extremely helpful the staff here at my practice enjoy using it and understood it thoroughly during training.
It is very very expensive and I wish we didn't have to do most of the billing work ourselves, Athena need to improve on their billing and RCM services.

I work out of a family practice and I would like to say that Athena's EMR is pretty decent but their billing is a bit dodgy.
the only thing I don't like about them is that we have to pay extra for almost every feature and their billing is not really good although they offer a good rate but I don't always get what I collect.

Athena clinical is one of the best ehr we ever came across. It designed very user friendly and easy to use which saves a lot of time for documentation and billing process. It is very easy to get patient history to medication chart.
It required some pre computer skills to use the system to navigate through different lab. It takes a week or 2 but a regular user can easily manage to learn it.

I like how I can easily search through outpatient records when caring for them in the hospital setting. Everything I need to know is located in one place such as past medical history, current medications, previous lab work and imaging ect. I can see where the patient was seen last and what was done for them. I especially like how I can message providers in order to stay in close communication with them. This allows a smoother transition when going from the inpatient to outpatient setting.
I certainly did not like that the providers outside the hospital cannot connected with Athena . If the providers is not part of the software we cannot communicate with them.

In general it keeps medical records organized and its easy to change and modify the information at any time. Software frequently gets update which is a good step. A recent update few months ago which improved the layout which is more user friendly.
First thing first, there is not enough security options to hide your certain documents or note to keep them seen from other people in your network. 2nd thing when you we send the patient case back and forth, no notification email or reminder we can have when the notes get opened.

Athena has a lots of useful features like Secure Text Messaging, Epocrates, revenue cycle management services and Care Coordination but still have some issues in reporting and billing areas. It is very useful that they categorized different specialty and physicians accounts which make easier to check and balance their schedules.
Its ehr sometimes take too many clicks to add particular information which leads to consume lots of time. Specially whenever we pull out patient’s report there are highly inaccurate.
